To The World...

You’re sitting at your desk, enjoying a well-deserved break after a long day of work, and you crack open a chocolate-y, delicious Snickers bar. Out of nowhere comes a tall, dark and mysterious stranger, who asks “can I help you enjoy that Snickers?” Picking up a conveniently-placed guitar, he breaks into an enchanting song about a magical place of “chocolate-covered mountaintops” and “prancing nougat” that “sings a song of satisfaction…to the world.” Nodding your head along to the gentle rhythms, you echo, “to the world….” It is, perhaps, the most absurdly surrealistic moment in television commercial history and yet, in an odd and, yes…satisfying…way, it is mesmerizing in its simplicity and childlike naivetĂ©. For an all-too-brief thirty seconds, we couch potatoes are whisked away upon a flight of fancy, transported to a mythical Big Rock Candy Mountain of the mind. Then your show returns, breaking the spell. Still, for a moment, everything was good and right…to the world!
