When The Jacksons Entertained us – Intentionally

Living in the so-called “Age of Irony”, it’s hard to believe that there really was a time when people thought they could change the world with pop music. And not just any people – specifically, The Jacksons. Check out this “futuristic” video for their song, Can You Feel It? At the time (1981: before MTV), this video was considered state-of-the-art; using computerized technology that rendered the Jacksons as five mythical gods who descend from the sky to sprinkle glitter dust over crowds of people; erect a rainbow; and basically restore peace and harmony to the planet (for about five minutes – then everything just goes dark again after they leave.) And maybe all of this really could have happened, too, if we’d only been less cynical and more pure of heart.

I weep for what could have been.

They may not have changed the world, but just years before they changed the diets of me & half my friends.
