How I Wish My Childhood Was...

The National Spelling Bee recently crowned Evan O'Dorney as their latest champion of spellers. Or is it champion of socially inept nerds who have skills that are useless in the real world? Regardless, these spelling bee kids are amazing, using root words and places of origin to spell out 'serrefine' and 'coryza' which until now, i didn't realize meant 'a small spring forceps used for approximating the edges of a wound' and 'profuse nasal mucous membrane discharge', respectively of course (duh). But Evan O'Dorney social skills are definitely lacking. Granted, he is only 13 and home-schooled, the boy could do away with those eerie blank stares and one word answers that have us wondering, are you sure this is the guy who won? But it leaves room to wonder, what if the joke is on us? Being able to spell words that many of us didn't even know existed should have been preceded by the ability to use common sense, correct? Or are human relationships deemed too pointless to him? I have questions abound about smart people who are social idiots, and this 13 year old boy and I definitely need to tango. Evan O'Dorney, the joke is up, we concede the fact that you can spell, now please, instead of learning the dictionary, learn some common courtesy. Good Luck kid, much faith in you.
